Hello, my name is Sylvia and I am a mom of two girls. Personally, I have dealt with anxiety since I was a kid. My anxiety manifested it’s ugly head after the birth of my first daughter. I was diagnosed with postpartum anxiety, which I had never heard of at the time. The anxiety was so bad, it almost ruined my marriage. I was desperate to save my marriage and myself from being defeated by anxiety. I got on medication and went to therapy. After a year of working hard on my mindset, I was able to get off medication. I know that if I can master my mindset, so can you.
Professionally, I have been a school counselor for almost 18 years. I have worked with students as young as kindergarten all the way through seniors in high school. School counselors work with students on their academics, social/emotional issues and college/career goals. Sadly, I have seen a decline in adolescents' social/emotional well being over the years and unfortunately, the pandemic only exacerbated this. The most common issue I see is anxiety and depression. As a mom, this is heartbreaking, so I started working with my own children on their mindset, and that’s when it hit me. Other moms need to do this too. If I could do this, certainly you can too. If we can master our own mindset, then we can teach our children the same. My goal is for a positive mindset to just be a way of life for my own girls. Imagine our children having the skills to face challenges that life throws at them? To me that is more valuable than anything.
